寫意畫法講究「形神兼備」和「筆簡意深」，以下是寫意絲瓜的具體畫法，適合初學者或有一定基礎的畫者練習。
寫意絲瓜畫法步驟一、準備材料紙張：生宣紙（吸水性好，適合寫意畫）毛筆：大筆（畫葉）、中筆（畫絲瓜和藤）、細筆（勾花和細節）顏料：墨汁、藤黃、花青、赭石、淡墨其他工具：水盂、調色盤、毛巾二、畫絲瓜調色用藤黃調少許花青（呈現黃綠色），筆含適量水分。
落筆用筆肚輕輕畫出絲瓜的基本形狀，長條狀且稍微彎曲。
順勢畫出絲瓜底部的花蒂（可用赭石點綴）。
添加質感用較乾的筆（蘸些淡墨或花青）輕輕在絲瓜表面點畫出細小的紋理，使其更生動。
三、畫藤蔓筆法：用中筆側鋒蘸濃墨，一筆畫出彎曲自然的藤蔓線條，筆法要流暢有變化。
筆勢：藤蔓應有起伏變化，不宜過於呆板，可搭配濃淡對比（先畫淡色藤，再畫濃色藤，增加層次）。
四、畫葉子用筆：用大筆，筆尖蘸濃墨，筆肚蘸淡墨或花青，以「側鋒」落筆。
筆法：先畫主葉脈，再用側鋒頓筆畫葉片，表現葉子自然的翻折感。
葉片可用濃墨、淡墨層疊，表現光影變化。
構圖技巧：葉片可相互重疊，不必太工整，強調自然生長的效果。
部分葉子可留白，讓畫面更加透氣靈動。
五、畫花與花蕾顏色：用藤黃畫出五瓣的絲瓜花，邊緣可稍帶橙色或淡花青增強層次。
勾花蕊：用細筆蘸濃墨點出花蕊。
花蕾：用淡黃或淡墨畫出未開的花蕾，增加畫面的生機。
六、畫構圖與點綴調整畫面平衡：如果畫面過於空曠，可適當增加藤蔓或花蕾，使畫面更加豐富。
點綴細節：可用淡墨輕點些小草、小昆蟲，使畫面更富生活氣息。
落款與鈐印：寫上自己的名字並蓋上印章，使作品更加完整。
七、畫法要點「以形寫神」：不必拘泥於細節，抓住絲瓜的主要特徵（長形、彎曲、帶紋理），用筆墨表現其生機與靈動。
「濃淡變化」：葉子、絲瓜、藤蔓的濃淡搭配，使畫面富有層次感。
「留白與呼吸感」：寫意畫不需填滿畫面，適當的留白能讓作品更有意境。
